TIRUNELVELI: Immunisation under the direct supervision of medical officers has yielded desirable results in the State, general secretary of Doctors’ Association for Social Equality G.R. Ravindranath has said.

Addressing a meeting organised here on Sunday by DASE to celebrate ‘Doctors’ Day,’ Dr. Ravindranath said dreaded communicable diseases had been rooted out from the soil of Tamil Nadu as vaccination programmes of the State Government had been effectively executed with the active participation of medical officers and the subordinate staff.

“There may be some opposition to the State Government’s decision to carryout all vaccination in the presence of the medical officers, but it will vanish soon.”

Former director, Department of Public Health, P. Padmanabhan; former director of Department of Medical Education, J. R. Vijayalakshmi; former Head, Department of Cardiology, Chennai Medical College, P. Sukumar; and Deputy Director, Health Services, Sivakasi, S. Balasubramanian were felicitated on the occasion.

Joint Director (Vaccination Programme) M. Senthamizhan; Deputy Director, Health Services, Kovilpatti, D. Madhusoothanan; Deputy Director, Health Services, Tuticorin, S. Uma; and Dr. Balasubramanian spoke on various aspects of the vaccination programme.

President of DASE D. Aram presided over the function. Deputy Director, Health Services, Tirunelveli, K.A. Meera Mohideen; Deputy Director, Health Services, Sankarankovil, V. Shanmugasundaram; office-bearers of the organisation R. Sundar, M. Arul Nambi, P. Dorai, S. Ananth, K. Shanmugaraja and others spoke.
