PRESS-NEWS Date : 21.02.10
DOCTORS’ SEMINAR HELD IN CHENNAI AGAINST THREE AND HALF YEAR MEDICAL COURSE.
Regarding this Dr.G.R.Ravindranath,General Secretary DASE has issued the following press statement.
The central Health ministry is planning to introduce a new three and half year medical course to produce rural doctors named as BRHC. Students from the rural areas which are having less than ten thousand people will be selected for this course according to the merit list prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the plus 2 exams. This new course and the new rural doctor scheme would be anti-people as well as anti-rural students. It would make them as second grade citizens. It would widen the gap between the rural and urban people in getting quality medical care.
The students pursuing this course would not be allowed to practice in urban areas, and could not go for any post graduate course. This is a violation of our constitution which ensures every citizen of India to have jobs or bussiness any where in India.
At present all the PHCs in 11 states and 5 union territories are having doctors.More than twenty thousand doctors across the country are waiting for government jobs. The governments are not utilizing the doctor man power properly. This scheme will affect the job opportunities of young M.B.B.S doctors.Only because of that All the Doctors’ Associations and Medicos’ Associations are oppossing this scheme.
It is laudable that the Tamilnadu Government has declared that it would not allow the course in Tamilnadu. But it would not be legally possible for the state government to prevent the private institutions which would dare to start the course once the MCI recognises this course and gives permission to the private institutions to start the course at All India level. So,this rural doctor scheme should be completely abandoned and it should not be allowed to come up.The central Government should pass the NATIONAL HEALTH BILL ,2009 in the forthcoming session of Parliament with necessary amendmends to safe guard the rights of the medicare providers. The central and state governments should take necessary steps to provide quality medical care to all at free of cost without any discrimination.
To highlight these demands the Indian Doctors For Peace and Development ,Doctors’ Association for Social Equality and Government All Doctors’ Association jointly organized a seminar in Chennai on 21.2.10 Sunday at 3.00 PM at ICSA Centre’s-JJ Hall,107-Pantheon Ro ad ,opposite to Museum,Egmore,Chennai -8.
