On 16th September, in a live T.V interview, central health minister changed his stand and said there is no going back on rural service, and he is sure of bringing this service from March 2008, this will be applicable for all the Medicos completing their Internship by March 2008 i.e., the batch entered MBBS by 2002. Aimed at diluting the issue he stated that “only in Tamil nadu the students are protesting against this issue, all the students of other states are welcoming this compulsory rural service”. He repeatedly telling this & issuing statements in Tamil Nadu Medias.
When we contacted other states, we were shocked to know that they were totally unaware of this issue, which is controversial to our central health minister’s statement.
So, It is the need of the hour for all the medicos of 262 medical colleges of India to stand united & protest against this upcoming social injustice to us...

PLEASE DON’T DELAY TO JOIN HANDS WITH US

Our future plans:-

1. Forming a state level committee in your respective states with 2 representatives (1 CRRI, 1 final yr) from each medical college.

2. Make aware of this issue to all your students

3. Conducting simple protest involving all medicos of whole India in one day without harming their curriculum activities and not opposing their professors, departments and management of the college. Till central health minister changes his stand

4. to succeed in our struggle we have to make both public & politicians aware of the drawbacks of the issue & gaining their support. for that our struggle should be people friendly & in more democratic manner. So We should be extra cautious in not harming public by any means like paralyzing the system

5. Media’s support should be our prime objective & we should clearly explain them with a properly prepared press release notice containing “our agenda and drawbacks regarding this issue on both public & medicos ’’. i.e. Rural People are in no way benefited from this scheme, as it states because only for 4 months we’ll be posted in Primary Health Centre & rest of the 8 months in District hospital & Taluk hospital with 4 months each .So its made clear that Govt is trying to reduce Health Expenditure by paying only 8000 as stipend instead paying 18000+ allowances & reservation in PG seats by giving us permanent job recruiting through Public Service Commission Exams. The govt is also trying to pretend as if it is caring towards the public by posting whole of the Medicos to do service in rural PHC & gain their support for election vote by putting burden over our shoulders, Govt. is also clear that if we proteat against this scheme the people will blame only the medicos & force us to do compulsory rural service. so we shouldn’t become prey to the crucial movement of the Govt. & have to explain public clearly regarding “ hidden tricks ” of the govt , that the govt is already spending only 0.9% of GDP( Gross Domestic Product ) for HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE against 5% of GDP as recommended by WHO. 0.9% of GDP is very meagre than most of the underdeveloped countries.

6. when the national medias display our protest across the whole India in one day, it’ll produce a huge impact in favour of us.

Watch our debate with central health minister in Star Vijay T.V of Tamil nadu on (21.10.2007) Sunday 9pm .the show is in Tamil so please kindly watch out with Tamil student ( if possible), so that you can very well see the stubborn stand of Central Health Minister on bringing this scheme by march 2008 with passing the bill in winter session of the parliament this November 2008.

Our time is short, He is sure of passing this bill on compulsory rural service in November (winter) parliament session. So please take it as a serious issue & act as soon as possible. And let us show our Medicos unity to them against this social injustice.

Thank you.
