Medical students give up demonstration

CHENNAI: The protesting members of the Tamil Nadu UG Medical Students and CRRI Struggle Committee have given up their demonstration in the light of an assurance from the Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss that the students’ demand would be considered.

The students had met Dr. Anbumani on September 8. Later, speaking to the media, he said the issue would be resolved after discussions with a high-level committee and State Ministers. The students had demanded permanent jobs with the government medical service, instead of the move to extend the course term to 6.5 years with a year’s compulsory service in rural areas.

In a press release, office bearers of the committee expressed the hope that a decision would be taken favouring their demands. — Special Correspondent
